Retraction: Report on AFP calling for Jonathan’s prosecution On March 5, 2016, we reported that an international news agency, AFP, called for the prosecution of former President, Goodluck Jonathan for the anti-corruption war to succeed.
We regret, however, that the crux of the said report was not actually the view of the AFP but were the express opinion of those spoken to; in other words, the report was a presentation of opinions of different individuals.
It is, therefore, expedient to note that AFP does not run editorials and did not take any position regarding the ongoing corruption investigations and trials across Nigeria. We reckon with the fact that the original article tried to balance the argument by including contrary opinions from two experts who suggested it would not be politically expedient for Buhari to bring Jonathan into the corruption trials.
DAILY POST, therefore, regrets the inconvenience(s) our misunderstanding of the original report may have caused AFP and reiterates that the angle taken in our story should not be construed as the standpoint of the news agency.
DAILY POST has now withdrawn the report from the website.
