Wife seeks divorce of 20-year marriage over lack of care

A 42-year-old housewife, one Mrs. Rasheed Taiwo, on Monday asked an Ado-Ekiti Customary Court for the dissolution her 20-year-old marriage to her Husband, one Tayo Rasheed, on grounds of alleged desertion and lack of care for the children.

The mother of three, a resident of Oshodi 1, Elemi Afao road, Ado-Ekiti, said the husband did not care about her welfare and the children. She told the court that her husband had abandoned her and the children for more than ten years.

According to her, before her husband left the house, he was not taking care of her and the children, adding that she had been the one responsible for the feeding and education of the children.

Taiwo also told the court that she was reliably informed her husband had got married to another woman.

She, however, prayed the court to dissolve the marriage and to grant her the custody of her three children, 19-year-old Rukayat, 15-year-old Barakat, 15 and Yusuf, 10.

The Court President, Mr. Joseph Ogunsemi, said since the respondent failed to come to defend himself against the allegations, they were deemed admitted by him.

Ogunsemi then adjourned the case till November 30 for judgment.
