Unemployed man remanded in prison for defiling 15-year-old cousin

A 25-year-old unemployed man, Asimiu Adebayo was on Wednesday remanded in prison by a Lagos Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ikeja for allegedly defiling his 15-year-old cousin.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Tajudeen Elias, ordered that the suspect be remanded in Kirikiri prison in Apapa area of the state over the alleged rape.

Adebayo, who resides with the father of the victim at Moricas, Agege area of the state is standing trial a one-count charge of defilement.

Earlier, the prosecuting officer, Sgt. Jimah Iseghede, told the court that the suspect committed the crime on November 12.

Iseghede told the court that a neighbour who heard the screaming of the girl peeped through the window and saw the accused raping the girl.

“She then alerted the other tenants and the accused was apprehended,” he said.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

When the charge was read, Adebayo pleaded not guilty.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Tajudeen Elias ordered that the accused be remanded in prison while adjourning the case till November 25, for ruling on his bail application.
