Unemployed man docked for stealing biscuits

A 29-year-old unemployed man, Bisoye Akinteju, was on Thursday docked at a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing two cartons of biscuits.

The accused, whose address is unknown, is facing a charge of stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp. Innocent Uko, told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 26 at Mowo bus stop in Badagry area of Lagos State.

Uko said that the accused stole the items from the complainant, one Miss Blessing Ukwo.

“The complainant is a petty trader at the bus stop so the accused just came out of nowhere, snatched two cartons of biscuits and started running away.

“Onlookers who saw what happened ran after him and helped to apprehend him,’’ he said.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 245 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge and his counsel, Mr Frank Nwadiuke, pleaded with the court to grant him bail on liberal terms.

The Magistrate, Mr Abiodun Etti, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N50, 000 and a surety in the like sum.

Etti said that the surety must provide evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case to June 24 for further hearing. (NAN)
