Two security guards get N250,000 bail each for allegedly stealing footwears worth N1m

Two security guards, Kudoro Segun, 27, and Oloruntan Akanni, 25, who allegedly stole their employer’s 40 bags of footwears valued at N1million, were on Monday in Lagos granted a N250, 000 bail each.

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court which gave the ruling also asked the accused to provide two sureties each in like sum, as part of the bail condition.

The Magistrate, Mrs Omolade Awope said the sureties must be gainfully employed and should show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government

She said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction. Awope adjourned the case to Oct. 10 for mention.

The accused are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Ezekiel Ayorinde told the court that the accused committed the offences in July at Chengfa Footwear Ltd., Obasa Street., Ikeja, Lagos.

He alleged that the accused stole the 40 bags of footwears from the company’s warehouse.

“The accused were caught from the company’s CCTV camera when it was played back by the sales manager one Li Jian,’’ he said.

The offences contravened Section 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 stipulates a three-year jail term for offenders.

Counsel to the accused, Mr Lawrence Iraboh had urged the court to grant his clients bail on liberal terms. (NAN)
