Two salesmen Benjamin Udoh, 32 and Michael Adewale, 27, were apprehended on Friday for raping their co-tenants at 55 Olorunlogbon Street, Anthony Village, Lagos.

The culprits allegedly committed the offence on January 18 between 2am and 3am.

They are presently standing trial on two counts of assault and rape before a Somolu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The prosecutor, ASP Akinlebi Adegoke, accussed them of “breaking into their co-tenants’ room, assaulted and raped them.”

Adegoke claimed that the salesmen had previously approached the ladies for a “romantic relationship” but their advances were declined.

“They (salemen) boasted that if they could not have them (ladies) no one else would,” Adegoke said, adding that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 185, 170, 258, and 409 of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State.

The accused persons however pleaded not guilty to the charges.

After having listened to both parties, the Magistrate, Mrs. Bola Osunsanmi, granted the salesmen a bail sum of N500,000 each and adjourned the case to February 28 for trial.
