Two employees arraigned in Lagos over theft of N2.5m school fees

A Surulere Chief Magistrate’s Court in Lagos on Tuesday granted one million Naira bail to two employees, who allegedly absconded with school fees worth of N2.5 million.

The suspects namely: Ekechukwu Sunday, 32 and. Olanrewaju Toheeb, 28 were tried on an eight count charge bordering on stealing, causing a riot, fraud and forgery.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Ipaye Nwachukwu, in her judgement granted the accused bail in sum of one million naira with two sureties in like sum.

Ipaye said the sureties must produce evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government, while their addresses should be verified.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Anthonia Osayande, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Oct. 26 at Orile Iganmu area of Lagos.

Osayande said that the two men refused to remit to the school, tuition fees collected from pupils, thereby defrauding their employer, Mrs Chika Okudo.

“The accused suddenly stopped coming to school, established their own school, re-appeared in the school, assembled the pupils, and told them that they had established a better school.

“The offences is punishable under Sections 409,166 (1)(d), 285, 44, 45, 363 and 323 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011”, according to the prosecutor.

The case was adjourned till Dec. 20 for mention.
