Three policemen arrested in Ebonyi over alleged illegal possession of arms

The Ebonyi State Police Command said it has arrested three police officers for alleged illegal possession of arms.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Moses Ndagi, during an interactive session with journalists in Abakaliki.

The CP said that the officers were arrested in Abakaliki.

He said: “our men searched their vehicle as they were about entering the town, discovered the weapons and arrested them. “They claimed to be policemen, although not serving in the state. Investigation is ongoing to ascertain their mission in the state.

“On Feb.18, we rescued one Mrs Bridget Nnenna from kidnappers at Mile 50 Layout, Abakaliki, while items, which include three locally made pistols and one AK 47 magazines were recovered from them.

“Also on Feb. 22, a Toyota Highlander Jeep belonging to Dr Chinyere Ezisi of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, was recovered after being snatched at gun-point”.

Ndagi also revealed that a kidnapping gang, made up of Kalu Iroha, Ifeanyi Ogidi and Ndubisi Chinyere, was smashed on March 9, adding that a notorious armed robber, Peter Onwe, was also arrested on March 12, after robbing one Mrs Mercy Nweri at Amike-Aba Village.
