Three Civil Defence Officers arraigned for murder

A Magistrate Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State Capital has remanded three officials of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Prison custody for the alleged murder of a commercial motorcyclist identified as Ogunrinde Michael, two weeks ago.

The Suspects are; Ajayi Amos Adesanmi (39), Adeleye Odunayo (34), Ayeni Michael Oluwaseun (35) and others who are still at large.

They were arraigned on a five-count charge, primarily bordering on the murder of the deceased on July 16 at the Olora Junction, Adebayo.

The offences were said to be contrary to and punishable under Section 320 and 355 of the criminal code Cap; C16 Laws of Ekiti State.

Police Prosecutor, Femi Falade, an Assistant Superintendent (ASP), prayed the court to remand the accused persons in prison custody, pending the legal advice of the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) of the Ministry of Justice.

He added that the charges were capital in nature.

A plea for bail was made on behalf of the suspects by their lawyers, led by Mr. Okai Felix, but the Magistrate, Patricia Ajibade, turned it down, ordering that they be remanded until the DPP’s report is made available.

However, the case has been adjourned till Wednesday (tomorrow).

Meanwhile, the victim was at the weekend, buried at Iyin-Ekiti, his hometown.
