An 18-year old student, Clement Odike, was Tuesday arraigned before a Makurdi Magistrates’ Court for allegedly raping a 6-year-old girl.
According to reports, the accused, who resides behind St. Augustine Catholic Church, Demekpe, Makurdi, allegedly dragged the victim into the bush while she was on her way home and forcefully had canal knowledge of her.
“The mother of the victim, unnamed, reported the matter at the ‘D’ Division Police Station in Makurdi on August 25,” the Prosecutor, Insp James Zungwe, told the court.
Zungwe said the accused pushed the victim to the ground, closed her mouth with his hand and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her, noting that she sustained serious injuries on her private part as a result of the attack.
“The offence is punishable under Section 284 of the Benue State Penal Code Law, 2004,” the prosecutor added.
The prosecutor, however, prayed for an adjournment as investigations into the matter are still ongoing.
Mrs Lillian Tsumba, the Court Magistrate, adjourned the matter till 8 October for further mention.
