A total of 83 illicit drug suspects were arrested in Taraba State, with 27 of them convicted and 52 counselled between January and June 2013, the Taraba State command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency,NDLEA, has revealed.
The state commander of NDLEA, Ishaku Yusuf Kwajafa, disclosed this in Jalingo on Saturday, at this year’s United Nations International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking with the theme: “New Psychoactive Substances.”
The Taraba NDLEA boss added that 985.21 kilogrammes of drugs and one hectare of cannabis farm were seized and destroyed by the Command within the last one year.
Kwajafa raised the alarm over the emerging trends of drug abuse amongst youths in the state which include diazepam, cough syrups, rubber solution, petrol, correcting fluid and sedatives, amongst others.
He assured that NDLEA in Taraba that it had positioned itself strategically to cover the entire state, stressing that the Command has four operational bases in Wukari, Bali, Gembu and Takum with its Headquarters in Jalingo.
