Police in Enugu State say it has arrested one Becy Abugu, a suspected member of a gang that specializes in Advanced Fee Fraud, often referred to as 419.
Abugu, a native of Umuagama village in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of the state was said to have been arrested when the operatives of the anti-kidnapping Squad of the Nigeria Police, Enugu state, raided their camp.
A police statement made available to DailyPost showed that the alleged ring leader of the gang, Ogbonna Abugu is currently on the run.
The statement, which was signed by the police spokesperson in the state, Ebere Amaraizu, DSP, disclosed that the arrest followed a tip off from members of the public over the gang’s illicit activities of swindling people of huge sums of money. According to Amaraizu, “items recovered from the syndicate includes golf 3 car with registration number MUS 774 AL red in colour, quantities of weeds suspected to be indian hemp, generating set and many sim cards of various networks”.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of police, Abubakar Adamu Mohammed had maintained that crime prevention and detection in the state remained his priority.
Adamu, while applauding his men’s effort in combating crime in the state, appealed to good citizens of the state to partner with police through the provision of relevant and timely information.
