Suspected cultists reportedly struck in Ijoka area of Ondo town on Monday killing a middle-aged man.
Although, details of the incident was still sketchy as at press time, it was, however, gathered that the victim whose name was given as Bolaji, was an active member of “Eiye Confraternity” and had gone to attend a birthday ceremony organized by a lady in the area, when he was killed.
Sources said the victim was shot by his assailants while he was leaving the party.
But another version said the victim was at the venue of the ceremony, when an argument ensued between him and the suspected cultists, said to be members of a rival group.
He was said have to have been pursued from the place to a neighouring relaxation centre before he was shot by the suspected cult members.
The death of the late Bolaji, has continued to elicit reactions in the town.
When DAILY POST visited the relaxation centre where he was reportedly shot, blood stain and broken bottles littered the whole area.
Besides, several residents of the area including members of the family of the late Bolaji, who wore mournful looks, were seen in groups discussing the development in hushed tone.
At Enuowa Divisional Police station where the report was lodged, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the station, Kunle Omisakin, confirmed the report, adding that his men were working round the clock to rid the community of crime.
Asked of the number of people that had been arrested in connection with the matter, the police boss said he was in Osogbo, the Osun state capital for a seminar, promising to get back to our correspondent.
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Wole Ogodo, also confirmed that the incident.
Security has been beefed up in strategic locations in Ondo town to forestall possible reprisal attack from some groups of people in the community. .
