A huge number of Gunmen suspected to be members of the dreaded Islamic group, Boko Haram were said to have attacked a Prison in Gwoza Local Government Area with explosives and set all the Prisoners free.

DailyPost gathered that, a civilian around the Emir’s Palace where the Prison is located was killed by the gunmen while they made to escape with the prisoners.

Also, DailyPost in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital could not get official confirmation as to the number of casualty because the phone of the state commissioner of Police, Yuguda Abdullahi was busy as at time of this report.

Also attempts to get prison officials in Maiduguri to know the specific number of prisoners that escaped did not yield positive result.

But a Prison officer who did not want his name mentioned told our correspondent that, the attackers burnt down some part of the Prison.

He said they did not touch any official of the Prison. ‘I think they came for some of their people that were arrested in the aftermath of the last attack on Police formation and Bank in Gwoza.’

Also, a local told Our Correspondent on phone that the gunmen attacked the prison between the hours of 7pm and 8pm on Thursday and freed all the Prisoners.

“We were just coming out of the mosque when we heard the sound of heavy explosion and gun fire around the palace, and we all ran to our homes only to come out this morning and learnt that the Boko Haram group blew the prison and freed all the prisoners.’ Malam Isah Yawulbi said.
