Suspected armed robbers kill Niger Delta High Chief’s driver, cart away 5m in Warri

Suspected armed robbers at about 9:45am today, in Warri, Delta State shot dead one Chidobe Nkem, a driver of Smu-Tuns House Nigeria Limited, a company allegedly owned by the Bolowei of the Niger Delta , High Chief Tunde Smooth.

The assailants also carted away the sum of five million naira, DAILY POST reports.

Our Correspondent gathered that the driver and the manager of Smu-Tuns House (name unknown) had gone to the First City Monument Bank along Airport Road near St.Mary’s Junction to withdraw money meant for workers salary when they were attacked.

It was gathered that the driver and the manager noticed that a vehicle was trailing them right from the bank, hence they decided to navigate through the Ajamimogha link road to Mabiaku road, but a commercial tricycle in front of the Mercedes benz (e-class) blocked them and the armed robbers quickly shot the tyres of their vehicle and the driver, Chidobe Nkem lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road and broke the fence of the Ecclesiastical Province of the Anglican Communion near the “A” Division Police Headquarters.

Smu-Tuns House Manager was lucky to have escaped through the broken fence of the church as the suspected robbers opened the boot of the company’s car and carted away the five million naira before they escaped.

The Divisional Police Officer of “A” Division, CSP Kevin Zuokumor declined comments on the matter but a police source who craved anonymity described the incident as “unfortunate” noting that the police have swung into investigation while the remains of the deceased driver has been deposited at the Central Hospital Morgue in Warri.

When DAILY POST contacted High Chief Tunde Smooth for comments on the matter, he quickly switched off his mobile phone lines.
