1. President Muhammadu Buhari Saturday returned to Nigeria from his medical trip to the United Kingdom, after over 100 days. The presidential jet, Eagle 1 touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja at about 4:30pm on Saturday amid cheers from Nigerians. Top government officials were at the airport to receive him. The President will be addressing the nation 7am on Monday.
2. Organisers of the #ResumeOrResign protests have welcomed President Muhammadu Buhari on his return to Nigeria, asking him to resume work immediately. A joint statement by Charles Oputa, Deji Adeyanju, Ariyo Dare Atoye, Jude Ndukwe and Bako Abdul Usman, said his return comes at a time Nigeria is in dire need of leadership to overcome the various economic socio-political challenges that threaten peaceful coexistence and development.
3. A ward chairman from Nkwelle Ezunaka in Oyi local government of Anambra State, identified as Uwakwe Mmaduabukwu, on Saturday collapsed and died during the Anambra governorship primaries of the United Progressive Party, UPP. All efforts to revive him proved abortive as many others were reportedly injured in fracas that broke out at the venue of the election. He reportedly died due to police brutality. Meanwhile, a former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka has emerged the party’s candidate.
4. Report says IPOB has insisted the Anambra State Governorship election will not hold despite recent reports that it had changed its position on the election. Mr. Darlington Chukwubuikem Okolie, the media aide to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has denied the report of the withdrawal of the threat to stop the election, saying the group had not changed its initial position of boycotting the November 18 election.
5. The home based Super Eagles of Nigeria on Saturday qualified for CHAN holding in Kenya after they defeated Benin Republic 2-0 in the second leg game. The team defeated the visitors by 2-1 on aggregate in Kano. The Eagles were in the first-leg defeated by a lone goal but scored 2 goals in the return leg.
6. President Muhammadu Buhari, Saturday, held a brief meeting with the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, service chiefs and heads of other security agencies. The closed-door meeting was held at the president’s official residence inside the Aso Rock Presidential Villa. Journalists and other government officials were denied access to the venue of the meeting.
7. A young man in his early twenties identified as Ifeanyi Dike has been arrested and paraded by the Rivers state police Command for allegedly raping and killing an eight year old girl in Port Harcourt. Spokesman of the Command, DSP Nnamdi Omoni while parading the suspect at the Command Headquarters in Port Harcourt said, Dike was arrested at Eliozu in Obio-Akpo Local Government area of the state. Omoni said Dike had allegedly raped, killed and removed vital parts of the girl’s body before he was arrested by local security in the area.
8. A militant group, Niger Delta Liberation Crusaders, NDRC, has given High Chief Mike Loyibo and 12 others named by the Coalition of Niger Delta Militant Groups, at the weekend, as new leaders of the region a three-day ultimatum to recant the claim. This is contained in a statement by the NDRC’s spokesperson, W O I Izon Ebi. It stated that Clark and PANDEF remain the leader and acceptable platform of the region respectively.
9. The Senate has warned nominees for the leadership of three Federal Government institutions not to resume work until their nominations are confirmed. The affected nominees are Ali Usman, who was nominated as Director General of the Pension Commission, Dr. Mohammed Isah nominated as Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau, and Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, the Chairman nominee for the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.
10. Report has it that Unknown gunmen, in the early hours of Saturday, allegedly abducted the daughter of an unnamed business mogul in Malumfashi, Katsina State. The abductors are yet to demand for ransom. The state police command also has not confirmed the incident yet.
