Suspect remanded for killing 25-year-old man


A Chief Magistrate Court, sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital, has remanded a 30 year-old man, Mr. Sunkanmi Gabriel at Olokuta minimum prison custody for allegedly stabbing one Ojo Akintoye, 25, to death with broken bottle.

Causes of their fight was still unknown but eyewitnesses said the incident occurred around 6.a.m at the Oloko Car park area in Akure on March 4, 2016.

The suspect, who appeared before His Worship Mrs. Victoria Bob-Manuel is facing one count charge of murder.

The offence, according to the prosecution, contravened section, 316 (1) and 319 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

The plea of the accused person who was represented by Barr. Adelanke Akinata was not taken.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Martins Olowofeso urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him send the duplicate file to Director of Public Prosecution, (DPP) for legal advice.

He prayed the court to remand the accused person in Olokuta prison custody pending the issuance of the advice by the DPP.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs Victoria Bob-Manuel, in her ruling, ordered the remand of the accused person in Olokuta prison custody pending the outcome of legal advice from the DPP.

She ordered the police to submit the compiled case file and its duplicate to the clerk of the court in order to transfer the original to the office of the Chief Registrar for safe keeping.

She, therefore, adjourned the case till May 2, 2016.
