Student sentenced to 2 years imprisonment for threatening to kill his father

A 27-year old student, Gideon Sambo was on Tuesday sentenced to two years imprisonment by a Kubwa Upper Area Court for threatening to kill his father.

Sambo was arraigned before the court presided over by Malam Munir Lawal for mischief and criminal intimidation.

The Prosecutor, Mr Danjuma Abdullahi, had told the court that the case was reported to the Dutse police station by the convict’s father, Mr Yohana Sambo, on April 28.

According to the prosecutor, “on that date, the complainant told the police that his son, Gideon, damaged his house windows and other property.

“He also told the police that his son threatened to kill him with a machete .

“He said that the boy had threatened him severally. He encouraged the police to initiate criminal proceedings against his son”.

He stated that the offences contravened sections 327 and 397 of the Penal Code. Sambo had pleaded guilty to the charges, but complained that his father always starves him of funds.

The Presiding Judge did not give the convict any option of fine, but admonished him to take advantage of the opportunities in prison to become a reformed person.
