Soldiers kill two armed robbers in Abuja

Two suspected armed bandits were on Saturday shot dead by soldiers from the Quick Response Group of Army Headquarters Defence Battallion, Zuma Barrack, Abuja.

The Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Lt Col Omale Abraham Ochagwuba, who confirmed the incident said the shoot out occurred at a notorious spot between Gauraka village and Zuma Rock, along Abuja-Kaduna road.

He said the Quick Response Group, while responding to a distress call from trapped motorists were engaged by about ten suspected armed robbers dressed in haphazard army camouflage uniforms with assault riffles.

Ochagwuba added that “in the firefight that ensued, one of the suspected armed robbers was shot dead on the spot while another who gave his name as Dauda Markus sustained gunshot injuries on the stomach.

“He was however, rushed to Suleja General Hospital for medical attention where he later died”.

He stated that some of the items recovered included two locally made guns, two machetes and a fake assault rifle.

He advised the general public to beware that the military has a dress code which is strictly and always adhered to, and not to be deceived by armed robbers in fake military uniforms.
