A security guard, Maigamu Samalia, 23, of Aso Pada, Mararaba, Nasarawa State, was on Friday arraigned in a Grade 1 Area Court, Aso Pada, Mararaba, for abduction.
Prosecutor Friday Idache told the court that the matter was reported at the Aso Pada Police Station by Sangai Adamu, on Aug. 27.
Idache said that sometime in January, Samalia deceived Adamu’s sister, Patience, 19, and took her away to an unknown destination without her consent.
He said the accused kept Patience away from her family up until Aug. 26 when he was arrested.
The prosecutor said the accused had confessed abducting the teenager to an unknown destination, adding, however, that he wanted to marry her.
He said the offence contravened Section 272 of the Penal Code. The section provide for 10 years imprisonment or an option of fine.
Samalia, however, pleaded not guilty.
The judge, Mr Albert Maga, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N150, 000 and two sureties in like sum.
Maga ordered that one of the sureties must be a traditional title holder, who had landed property, and reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
He also ordered that the sureties must write an undertaking that the accused would not commit any offence again and adjourned the case to Sept. 19, for further hearing. (NAN)
