The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police Force, Aba Area Command, has arrested a 20-year-old female cook, suspected to be a member of a kidnapping gang, terrorising Abia and other South East states. Abia Commissioner of Police, Joshak Habila told newsmen on Thursday in Aba, that the cook was arrested at the kidnappers den at Eberi Omuma Community in Rivers.

The commissioner said that other members of the gang fled before the arrival of the police.

Habila said that a female victim and her child earlier kidnapped in Aba by the gang were rescued unhurt.

He said that the SARS team after rescuing the victims carried out an operation in the area and recovered a pistol, welding machines and 25 pieces of unexpended live ammunition.

Habila said that police investigation showed that the gang whose members are spread across other locations in South East and South South, had been linked with several kidnappings and robbery operations within the zones.

He also alleged that the group was involved in bank robbery operations and breaking of Automated Teller Machine (ATM) vaults in the zones.

Narrating how they invaded the Eberi Omuma Community, the Aba Area Commander, ACP Peter Wagbara, said that the hoodlums had abducted two persons at Clifford and Ngwa roads in Aba respectively.

Wagbara further stated that the Police on a tip off, stormed the place where the victims were kept in Eberi Omuma, Omuma Local Government Area of Rivers.

“We stormed the community, but the hoodlums had advance information that we were coming and fled. But we were able to rescue the victims.
