No fewer than 20 robbers, apparently on a reprisal, stormed a hotel, 04 Hotel and killed its owner identified as Mr. Olarenwaju Subair, and two others on Sunday in Ajah area of Lagos State.
DailyPost gathered that the gunmen were also alleged to have injured about five others, who were occupants of the hotel in an operation that lasted for about an hour.
The robbers who stormed the hotel in number, at about 3am succeeded in killing the owner of the hotel.
They were also said to have angrily set some cars ablaze, while injuring some people who were in the hotel.
It was gathered that the robbers were on a reprisal attack on the hotel owner, whom they believed gave information to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad operatives, leading to the subsequent arrest of the leader of their gang.
The fuming robbers also searched everywhere for petrol to set the hotel on fire, but could not find any.
While some sources claimed that five people were killed, others insisted that five were injured and were rushed to different hospitals.
Confirming the incident, Police spokesperson in Lagos State, Ngozi Braide, insisted that she was still gathering facts about the matter.
Braide said that the owner of the hotel was killed, but was not aware of any other casualties aside from a slain robber during a gun duel with police.
She said, “The Special Anti-Robbery Squad had raided the hotel sometime ago and had arrested the leader of the robbery gang as well as two members of the gang. The gang members still at large stormed the hotel and shot the owner and some of his employees.
“The robbers told the customers at the hotel that they came on reprisals, however one of the employees was able to call the police and on sighting the policemen, the robbers opened fire. The policemen shot back and one of the robbers was killed. An AK47 rifle was recovered from the robber.”
“It was after the policemen entered the hotel that they discovered that the owner of the hotel had been killed.”
Braide said the police high command was interested in the case and the culprits would soon be brought to book.
“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Umar manko, has vowed that the robbers would be arrested.”
