Robbers invade popular drinking joint in Benin, dispossess customers of phones, cash

Armed robbers on Sunday night invaded a drinking joint around Trade Fair complex in Benin City, Edo State and dispossessed fun seekers of their mobile phones, jewelleries and cash.

The gunmen who were about six in number, stormed the bar in an Audi car at about 10: 30pm and ordered all the customers at gun point to submit their personal effects.

The brisk operation was said to have lasted for about 5 minutes, with the gunmen carting away expensive brandy and whiskeys from the joint.

The very busy bar became a shadow of itself as customers and passers-by flee, sequel to the shots reportedly fired into the air by the dare-devil robbers.

The crime forced those living around the vicinity to remain indoors for several hours before the arrival of a Hilux van of anti-robbery squad from the state Police Command headquarters.

Meanwhile, residents of the area urged the state police command to increase patrol by its men around the area as the place is becoming notorious for incidents of robbery and rape.
