The Rivers State police command has reiterated its commitment to combating crime in the state.
The State Commissioner of Police, Tunde Ogunsakin made the re-affirmation while parading suspects at police headquaters in Port Harcourt.
Ogunsakin said officers of his command including the anti robbery squad, anti kidnapping unit have been up and doing since his transfer to Rivers State.
“I want to use this medium to reiterate our commitment to continue our crusade against crime and its perpetrators.
“The Command’s effort is yielding fruitful seeds as we combat crime in all forms. I will like to state also that modern day security is our benchmark.
“We will continue to strive in this direction, God willing.
“On March 10, 2014, men of the SSS arrested a notorious gang that specializes in armed robbery, car theft and car snatching.
“So far, the Special Anti Robbery Squad has recovered twenty four (24) vehicles and is recovering more as investigations are still ongoing.
“The Special Anti Robbery Squad responded to a tip off and led a combined team to arrest a suspect of cultism, kidnap and ritual killing in his home in Igwuruta, Rivers State on June 24, 2014”.
Ogunsakin, however, urged the people of the state to continue to support the police to carry out their responsibilities effectively.
“I want to advise all perpetrators of crime to desist from their actions or relocate from this State.
“I also want to assure the general public of our resolve to carry out professional policing in protecting lives and property.
“This we cannot do alone and as I have always said, every member of the society, as stakeholders in security, needs to get involved”, Oginsakin said.
Meanwhile, while the victims thanked the police for living up to their bidding, some of the arrested suspects explained why they indulged in crimes.
