Hundreds of protesters have flooded the Enugu government house, kicking against the planned impeachment of Governor Sullivan Chime by members of the State’s House of Assembly.
Fifteen members of the House of Assembly, led by the speaker, Hon. Eugene Odo, had on Monday directed the clerk to serve Chime the impeachment notice.
However, DAILY POST reports that hundreds of members of the Peoples Democratic Party, especially women and youths, have taken over the Government House, calling on the lawmakers to drop the plan.
The protesters, DAILY POST learnt, were mobilized from the 17 local government areas in the state.
They took off from the Michael Okpara Square from where they took off to the Enugu Government House.
DAILY POST reports that the government house security threw the gates wide open to the protesters unlike other demonstrations in the past, which terminated at the entrance.
It could be recalled that the State House of Assembly became factionalized on Monday as two groups held different sittings at the hallowed chambers.
