Police rescues kidnapped wife of Delta Council Chairman


The Police authorities in Delta State on Monday rescued the wife of the chairman of Aniocha South local government area of the state, Hon. Isaac Anwuzia, from armed bandits who abducted her and her daughter at their residence in Ogwashi-Uku.

Acting Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Charles Mouka said in a statement in Asaba that the woman and her daughter regained their freedom after a police team gave the kidnappers a hot chase, forcing them to abandon their victims and flee into the bush.

Mouka said: “On October 26, 2015 at 7.30am, the DPO, Ogwashi-Uku Division received distress call that five unknown gunmen have invaded residence of one Hon. Isaac Anwuzia in Agidisei quarters, Ogwashi-Uku.

“The gunmen kidnapped his wife, Mrs. Favour Anwuzia, aged 32yrs and his 3yrs old daughter, Miss Godness Anwuzia, and forced the victims into the complainant’s Toyota Corolla car parked in the compound.”

The police spokesperson said that the gunmen thereafter, drove to unknown destination, adding that on receipt of the report, the police patrol team pursued the hoodlums toward Edo-Ogwashi-uku road.

He said that the hoodlums on sighting the patrol team, abandoned the victims and the vehicle, and escaped into the bush.

Mouka, however, said that the victims were rescued unhurt and the vehicle recovered.

He said the police team combed the bush and arrested one Pascal Kure, male, aged 24 years of DDPA Estate, Asaba and one Chinedu Obiazu, male aged 28yrs of Umuneze quarters, Idumeze Asaba.

According to the police image maker, other three members of the gang, however, managed to escape, adding that investigation was in progress with a view to arresting the fleeing hoodlums.
