Police parades 92 suspected cultists, armed robbers in Port Harcourt

The Rivers state Police Command has said it will not relent in its effort to put the security situation in the state under check before, during, and after the elections.

The Command gave the reassurance while parading scores of suspects who arrested for cultism, kidnapping and armed robbery crimes in different parts of the state.

Public Relations Officer of the Command, Ahmad Mohammad at a media briefing said some of the suspects were arrested while committing the crime, while others were arrested following a tip-off.

“The Rivers state Command has observed with consternation the upsurge in cult activities in the state which coincided with the present political events in the relation to 2015 general election. Their nefarious and deadly activities which sometimes were attributed to politics.

“Accordingly, the Command has risen to the challenge with renewed determination ever than before to smoke them out from their hideouts. Already, 92 suspected cultists of different groups have been arrested with assorted firearms and ammunition, cutlasses, charms and other lethal weapons.

“In a related development, on 23/03/2014 at about 1630hours at Police Special Checkpoint, Akpajo in Eleme, luck ran out of a five man armed robbery gang who were on their way to PH from an armed robbery operation in Akwa-Ibom state.

“I wish to warn these miscreants to turn a new leaf and recant cultism but if they are ready to test our renewed commitment, they should be ready to face the full wrath of the Law,” the Police said.
