A Nigerian police officer in Washington is facing a string of charges in Maryland, USA after police authorities alleged he paid a 15-year-old girl for sex and then took back the money at gunpoint.
Anne Arundel County police said 27-year-old Chukwuemeka Ekwonna of Glenn Dale was arrested last week and charged with armed robbery, assault, third-degree sex offense, reckless endangerment, prostitution and a weapon offense.
According to Washington Television and Radio (WTVR), the teenager recently told police that she was robbed by a man she met through social media who offered her $80 for sex.
They met in January and after they reportedly had sex, the man, later identified as Ekwonna, pointed a gun at her and demanded his money back.
Metropolitan Police Department said Ekwonna was a member of the department for 14 months and was assigned to the Second District.
Following his court appearance Friday afternoon, the department said his employment had been terminated.
The 15-year-old juvenile victim in this case is receiving appropriate support services.
The evidence during the investigation revealed the juvenile female was acting on her own and was not a victim of human trafficking.
However, she is not a target of any criminal investigation related to this case.
The Anne Arundel County Police Department urged anyone with information about the suspect in this case or any other similar incidents to contact the Anne Arundel County Sex Offense Unit or Metro Crime Stoppers.
