The police authorities in Delta State have confirmed the killing of two robbery suspects in a gun battle with hoodlums after a robbery attack in Effurun, near Warri last Wednesday.
Police spokesperson, DSP Celestina Kalu said in a statement Friday in Asaba that the deceased suspects were part of a criminal gang that attacked and robbed a lawyer and others at gunpoint.
“On November 25, 2015, four armed robbers operating with a tricycle attacked one Barrister Elogbunam Edidion and other persons at Effurun roundabout and dispossessed them of laptops and eight assorted handsets.
“However, in a swift reaction to the incident, patrol team from Ekpan Division and mobile policemen rushed to the scene where the hoodlums engaged them in a gun battle”, he disclosed.
Kalu said that during the exchange of gunfire, two of the armed robbers were gunned down, while two others managed to escape with bullet wounds.
She stated that items recovered from the bandits include one cut-to-size locally-made pistol, two live cartridges and the stolen items.
The police image maker further stated that the police had launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspects, and also intensified security patrol of the area.
