Police kill one kidnapper, arrest four others in Delta


Police in Delta state have shot dead a suspected kidnapper and arrested four others who abducted a community leader in Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South local government area of the state on November 18.

Police spokesperson, DSP Celestina Kalu said in a statement on Saturday in Asaba that the dead kidnapper, identified simply as Ifeanyi was killed by the police after operatives stormed the hideout of the kidnappers in neighbouring Anambra State.

“On November 18, 2015 one Chief Christopher Ijeh was kidnapped by unknown kidnappers at Ogwashi-Uku in Delta State. However, on November 27, police detectives, acting on a tip off stormed the criminals’ hideout at Orifitie in Anambra State.

“The hoodlums on sighting the detectives engaged them in a gun duel. In the process one of the kidnappers identified as Ifeanyi (surname unknown) was shot and arrested,” she said.

Kalu said the detectives also arrested other members of the gang, namely, Onyeka Anyanwu, Okoh Kaogwashie, Emeka Okolie and his wife, Loveth Emeka Okolie.

She explained that the injured suspect, Ifeanyi was rushed to FMC Asaba for treatment but was later confirmed dead.

The police spokesperson disclosed that the sum of five hundred and fifty four thousand naira (N554, 000.00) believed to be part of the ransom of N2m collected from the family of the victim was recovered from Loveth Emeka Okolie.

She said that the suspects have been taken into custody, adding that Investigation into the matter is in progress.
