A trigger happy Police Inspector attached to Elere Police Division in Lagos State, Ibrahim Abdullahi, had on Thursday shot dead a yet-to-be identified man, at Ile-Epo bus stop, along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway in Lagos State.
Residents of the area, who were returning to their homes after the close of the day’s work, scampered for safety as they initially had no clue of what the gunshot was all about.
DailyPost Metro gathered that few seconds after, the unidentified man was found in the pool of his own blood as he was allegedly shot by a policeman.
It was learnt that Insp. Abdullahi had spent about 28 years in service until the incident happened.
Unconfirmed sources revealed that a complainant, who is yet to be identified, approached Insp. Abdullahi to help cajole the deceased to release his car tyres held for unknown reasons when the incident happened.
However, in order to fast-track the release of the tryes, the complainant sought the help of Insp. Abdullahi.
It was gathered that when Insp. Abdullahi and the complainant got to the deceased’s place, an argument ensued between them and without much ado, the Inspector pulled the trigger and shot the deceased.
Eyewitnesses accounts revealed that immediately the Inspector pulled the trigger, confusion ensued and the deceased died before help could get to him.
While confirming the incident, the Commissioner of Police. Prince Umar Manko, said the earring policeman acted against the conduct of the force.
He however stated that the shooting was an accidental discharge, stressing that the Inspector did not put on his rifle safety catch.
He explained that while the argument ensued between the parties, the rifle fell from the Inspector’s hand, hit the ground and immediately discharged. The bullet hit the deceased.
According to him, the policeman who is now being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, Lagos, will undergo an orderly room trial, adding that the command would make public the report of the trial.
