The Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Lagos on Monday arrested six suspected members of an armed robbery gang, which specialised in stealing exotic cars.
The Force Police Public Relations Officer, ACP Frank Mba, paraded the suspects, and some exhibits recovered from them before newsmen in Lagos.
The police spokesman alleged that the gang specialised in stealing exotic cars from different parts of the country and disposing of same in neighbouring countries.
According to him, items recovered from the suspects include 17 different exotic cars, two locally made single-barrel pistols and assorted ammunition.
The spokesman said that operatives led by a Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr Chris Ezike, arrested the suspects in Ekiti, Abuja and Lagos.
“The confession of the suspect in Lagos led to the arrest of a 28-year-old man, who claimed to be a political thug in Ekiti.
“They are involved in robbery and politics. They will soon be charged to court,’’ Mba said.
He advised politicians to play the game by the rule, warning persons with violence tendency to steer clear of Osun State during its governorship election in August.
“We use this medium to warn politicians to steer clear of anything that constitutes a threat to peaceful conduct of elections.
“We will bring the full weight of the law against anyone that will cause crisis during the elections.
“ We are aware of the time and our responsibilities.
“The Inspector-General of police has directed all commands, units and zones to commence massive mop up of illegal arms in circulation nationwide.
