In less than 48 hours of their promise to trace and free the kidnapped Briton, Lee Dixon, a British expatriate kidnapped last Tuesday, July 16, the Lagos State Police Command has succeeded in setting him free in its last operation and manhunt.
He had been forcefully seized at the Mafoluku area, a close distance to the Muritala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, while being chauffeured by his driver who had picked him upon his arrival from Amsterdam.
DailyPost gathered that a successful operation by a combined team of operatives from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, as well as from the Special Intelligence Bureau, SIB, secured the freedom of the Briton.
He was rescue from an uncompleted two storey building at Okota Isolo area of Lagos State, while a suspect was equally arrested.
On Friday, a statement by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, explaining how the incident occurred said, “An expatriate, Lee Dixon, a Briton, who arrived on KLM from Armsterdam, was kidnapped around Mafoluku area at about 2030 hours (8.30 pm), 18/07/2013. His driver, Kojo Jacobs, an employee of Russell, an oil services company based in Lekki, was driving him in a black Kia Sportage registered, MA 266 EKY, when they were accosted .
“The gunmen shot the driver and took away the expatriate; the driver is receiving treatment at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos.”
The kidnappers were said to have demanded a huge ransom after which a sting operation was ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Umar Manko.
The command says it is still searching for the other members of the gang who are currently at large.
