Police drags 7 persons to court for stealing goat owned by Osun government

Seven persons were on Wednesday arraigned before a Magistrates’ Court in Osogbo, the Osun State capital for allegedly stealing a goat belonging to the Osun State government.

The accused persons, one woman and six men were arraigned before Magistrate Habibat Bashiru on two counts charge of conspiracy and stealing.

They include Muhammed Moruf, Ayeni Abiodun, Agboola Fatai, Fayinka Gbenga, Olowoniyi Jeromu, Olorunfunmi Adeyemi and Babatunde Michael.

The prosecutor told the court that the suspects stole a goat belonging to the state government at the government’s livestock garden, GRA Osogbo on May 14, 2013 and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 516 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap, 34 Vol. 11, laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2003.

All the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the allegations levelled against them. Counsel to the defendants, Mr Nnnena Ngwu, applied for their bail, arguing that the suspects should be presumed innocent until the contrary is established. He assured that the suspects would not jump bail if granted, adding that he would produce them whenever their attention is needed by the court. Magistrate Basiru, consequently granted the suspects bail in the sum of N50,000 each with a surety and thereafter adjourned the case till June 5, 2013 for hearing.
