The Inspector General of Police,IGP, Mohammed Abubakar, has explained why most family members of kidnapped victims quickly pay ransom to the kidnappers.

He noted that such families were never ready to wait for the police to go through the necessary security measures needed to arrest the suspects.

The police boss who made this disclosure during a meeting with all the state Commissioners of Police, however decried the frustration security agents suffer while using the country’s technological devices to track down such kidnappers.

According to him, the security forces do not know when payments were made to abductors in most cases.

He stated that the police would have resolved most kidnapped cases but for the poor telecommunication system in the country which most times affect police tracking system, it becomes frustrating.

“It is not right, it is not proper. But the issue is when somebody is kidnapped and the family contacts security agents, be it police or the SSS, efforts are being made through tracking device.

Sometimes you find it very difficult to track them because of our networks. They go to places where there are no networks, so you cannot locate them at all.”
