Police arrests suspected ritual killer in Ogun

The Police Command in Ogun on Wednesday said it had arrested a suspected ritual killer at Iyana Egbado community in Ewekero Local Government Council Area of the state.

The spokesman of the command, Mr Muyiwa Adejobi, told newsmen in Abeokuta that the suspect was caught with pieces of meat suspected to be human parts.

Adejobi, who said the police were alerted at about 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday by members of the community who apprehended the suspect, added that investigation had commenced.

He, however, said it was wrong to conclude that the pieces of meat were human parts until a forensic test was carried out on them.

` `It will be wrong for people to jump to conclusion as the police will need to carry out forensic research to determine if the parts are really human or that of animals.

“The statement from the suspect is not coherent as he is behaving in an abnormal manner, but thorough investigation will be carried out to discover the truth of the case,” he said.

A witness, Samuel Oladele, however, told newsmen that the suspect, believed by members of the community to be insane, was discovered to be operating a ritual den inside a bush.

He said the cry of a female victim, who was about to be killed by the suspect, attracted the attention of passers-by who rescued her.

Oladele said residents, who became suspicious of the suspect’s activities, were forced to open a polythene bag found on him and discovered pieces of meat believed to be human parts.

He said the suspect, who was attacked by a mob, was forced to disclose his alleged hideout where other materials such as women underwear as well as shoes were found.

“The timely intervention of the police prevented people from killing him, ” he said. (NAN)
