Police arrest four suspected sea pirates in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command over the weekend arrested four persons suspected to be sea pirates in Igbokoda, the headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects that include Kingsley Sunday, Felix Okiki, Okumagba Ibere and Godspower Happy were reportedly from Delta and Edo States.Report says to have been responsible for several attacks along Awoye/Ubale waterways.

It was gathered that they were apprehended through the combined efforts of the police and some local vigilante who had been on the their (suspects) trail for a while.

The source said that on the fateful day, the hoodlums had finished their operations and they were trying to escape with the loots when the police and the vigilante were informed and immediately swung into action, leading to the arrested of the hoodlums.

While confirming the development, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Wole Ogodo explained that two of the suspects were currently receiving treatment at the General Hospital in Igbokoda following the injuries they sustained while struggling to escape arrest.

He added that all the stolen items could not be recovered from the suspected hoodlums as they fell into the sea while the police and the vigilante personnel were struggling with them.

Ogodo, who Commended the efforts of the vigilante operatives for assisting the police to arrest the alleged sea pirates , pointed out that the job of effective crime control was the joint efforts of the police and the community people, urging the people not to leave the job to the police alone but report any act of criminality in their environment .

He then disclosed that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as the police concluded its investigation on the crime.
