The police, on Thursday, arraigned a-52-year-old woman, Chinoyerim Ozor, at the Gudu Upper Area Court for assaulting her tenant.
The accused, who resides at Kabusa in Apo, Abuja, is standing trial on a six-count charge of criminal conspiracy, criminal force, criminal intimidation, assault, theft and mischief.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Shedrack Dauda, told the court that one Simon Agbo of Kabusa in Apo, Abuja, reported the matter at the Apo Police Station on June 18.
Dauda said the accused and seven others at large, went to the complainant’s house and beat him up to the extent that he sustained bruises all over his body.
He added that the accused, being the complainant’s landlady, also removed his property from the apartment and locked it up.
The prosecutor said that the complainant’s property were left outside the apartment and were damaged by rain.
He also alleged that the accused and seven others, stole the complainant’s Samsung Galaxy cell phone, valued at N48,000, a Nokia cell phone valued at N8,000 and wallet containing N4,630.
Dauda said the accused further threatened to kidnap the complainant’s children, adding that the offences contravened sections 97, 265, 287, 397 and 327 of the Penal Code.
The accused, who pleaded not guilty to the charges, told the court that she was too old to commit the alleged offences.
The judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, however, granted her bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one reliable surety, who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
He then adjourned the case until Aug. 4 for further hearing. (NAN)
