Phone thieves to be lashed with 12 stokes of cane

Two phone thieves, Abubakar Rabiu, 20, and Awalu Saidu 20 have been ordered by an Abuja Senior Magistrates’ Court to be trashed with 12 lashes of cane for stealing handset belonging to one Mr Ikechukwu Okpanyi of Phase 4 Nyanya, Abuja, on March 21.

According to Police prosecutor Tangshak, the culprits stole Mr Okpanyi’s LG phone gadget worth N11, 500 at the Nyanya Market junction. The handset was recovered from the accused persons during investigation.

He noted that the offence contravenes sections 79 and 288 of the Penal Code.

Senior Magistrate, Nkamdimi Buba ordered them to be lashed with twelve stokes of cane when the accused pleaded guilty.
