Pharmacist remanded in prison for fraud


An Ejigbo, Lagos Magistrate Court has remanded a 40-year-old pharmacist, Lazarus Akagbusi at the Kirikiri Prison for allegedly defrauding a company in the state.

DAILY POST gathered that Akagbusi, who allegedly claimed to be a superintendent pharmacist, collected about N500, 000 from a company, Rem. G Pharmaceutical Company, under the guise of obtaining license to manufacture drugs.

The suspect, instead of obtaining the license, diverted the money for his personal use.

Following this discovery, the company asked him to refund the money which he refused to do, saying there was no money.

The matter was reported to the police, who arrested him.

Confessing to the crime, Akagbusi told the police that he collected the money but could not procure the license for the company because he diverted the money for personal use.

He was arraigned on a two count charge of obtaining under false pretense and stealing.

When the charges were read, the accused pleaded not guilty and the presiding Magistrate, Mr. Peter Nwaka, granted him bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum but ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri pending when he meets up with his bail condition.

The case was adjourned the case to 27 July, 2015.
