Pastor charged with cutting toddler’s finger, seeks out of court settlement

A Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Wednesday fixed Nov.19 for report on settlement in a case of a pastor who allegedly cut off a finger of his neighbour’s daughter.

The accused, Moyo Matins, who resides at No. 5 Oluomo St., Iwaya, Onike, Lagos, is facing a charge of causing grievous bodily harm on a two-year-old girl.

When the case was mentioned on Wednesday, Mr Emmanuel Bassey, counsel to the accused, told the court that parties in the suit had agreed to settle the case out of court.

Consequently, the Magistrate, Mrs Yewande Aje-Afunwa, adjourned the case to Nov. 19 for report on the settlement.

At Martins’s arraignment on March 11, the prosecutor, ASP Godwin Anyanwu, told the court that the pastor committed the offence March 6 at his residence.

He said that the accused cut off the index finger of the toddler at 1.10p.m. in contravention of Section 243 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Aje-Afunwa granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. (NAN)
