Two suspected criminals, who escaped from Ekiti Prison during a jail break last year, have been re-arrested for robbery by men of the Ondo State Police Command.
The suspects, identified as Banji Adedayo and Tope Daramola have earlier been sentenced to prison for robbery before they escaped with 320 inmates during a jail break last year November in Ekiti State.
Despite this, the duo refused to turn new leaf as they joined three others to form a five-man robbery squad to rob people of their valuables in Ondo State and other neigbouring states.
Luck ran after them after snatching a Toyota Sienna Bus worth N1.6million from one Mr. Remidayo Komolafe at By-Pass junction in Akure, the State Capital on March this year.
The culprits also took along five assorted mobile phones valued N200,000 with the car.
The police were able to apprehend the bandits through one of the suspected robbers’ girlfriend, who was given one of the stolen phones by his lover, Tope.
Speaking with reporters, the State Commissioner for Police, Isaac Eke, who paraded 28 others, said upon interrogation the suspects confessed to the crime and also disclosed that they were among the inmates who escaped from Ekiti Prison.
Eke added that the suspects also confessed to be among the armed robbery gang that robbed a handset’s dealer in Igba-Oke in Ifedore local government area of the state.
The Commissioner said one of the fleeing gang simply identified as Titus Olorunsola was shot on the left leg while dragging an AK 47 rifle with an Inspector during police invasion to their camp at Iro in Akure.
The Police command also paraded three members of the Odua Peoples Congress (OPC) for allegedly kidnapping former OPC Governor in the State, Tayo Alao.
The suspects known as the Present OPC Governor in the State, Rafiu Alo, Michael Oladun and David Adesemoye were said to have been paid ransom before they released the victim.
Eke disclosed that the suspects tied the victim and forcefully made him to swear an oath in a river that he would not report the incident to the Police.
The Police boss said he had been receiving pressure from some prominent people to release the suspects but that he had insisted that they must be prosecuted in the law court.
Other suspected criminals paraded include; 12 armed robbery suspects, five cultists, one rapist, among others. .
