Ondo NSCDC arrests 7 suspects for operating illegal refinery

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps,NSCDC, Ondo State command says it has arrested seven suspects operating illegal refinery and petroleum depot in the state.

Mr Waheed Popoola, the NSCDC Commandant in Ondo State disclosed this when he briefed journalists on the activities of the state command of the NSCDC in Akure on Thursday.

According to Poopola, the suspects were picked up at Iju Osun, Ore, Oniparaga and Onitea, all in Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.

The commandant said three trucks with registration No, EKY 699 XH, XA 995 KMR and JJJ450 XA were recovered from the suspects.

According to him, “at Oniparaga, on Lagos-Ore Road, we discovered some wells where fuel was being drawn like water from.

“We are determined to rid the state of these saboteurs and as I speak to you, normal surveillance is going on in all these areas which are mostly riverine areas of the state”.

He added that the command had since notified the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation,NNPC, of the development.

He stated that the illegal depot and refinery had been destroyed, while cars numbering up to 10 loaded with adulterated fuel were also recovered from the suspects.
