Ondo NDLEA seizes 13.2 tons of hemp valued at N50million

The Ondo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has made a seizure of 13. 2 tons of cannabis Sativa otherwise known as Indian hemp valued at over fifty million naira.

The seizure which is the single largest made  by the command in recent times was intercepted in one of the government forest reserves.

The State Commander of the Agency, Walter Nicholas while briefing reporters in Akure, said the seizure was made possible after three months of surveillance.

He said the seizure is 13.2 tons and is valued at over N50 million.

The cannabis Sativa otherwise known as Indian hemp were seized at AgoDada in Akure North Local Government of the state after months of surveillance by the men of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

Though the operation was not without resistant from the Drug barons, the men of the agency were able to confront the dealers.

Briefing reporters, the Agency Commander, Walter Nicholas, said the ingenuity of those behind the trade showed the desperation by them to make money through illegal means.

He pointed out that it took the agency three days to evacuate the cannabis which, he noted is about 13. 7 tons

Nicholas said the agency would not fold its hands and watch anybody no matter how highly placed to destroy the future of the country

The NDLEA boss explained two suspects were arrested with the cannabis while four others were still at large.

The State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko commended the agency for its efforts at reducing the illicit trade in the state.

Mimiko who was represented by the Secretary, Cabinet and Service Matters, Muyiwa Ale, said government would always provide necessary assistance to the agency.

The State Police Commissioner, Sanni Magaji, also pledged that is command would always provide the necessary back up for the agency

The agency also displayed  some local made guns seized during different operations in the state last year
