Seven suspected truck snatchers were today paraded by men of the 32 Artillery Brigade and Garrison in charge of Ondo and Ekiti States.
According to the security operatives, they were arrested at Omuo-Ekiti, Ekiti State Military checkpoint in a Toyota Car while they were on their way to Kogi State for alleged criminal operations.
The suspects were Abdulfatai Olawale, Gbenga Jacobs, Michael James, Sesan Olarewaju, Godwin Attah, Abdul Issa and Okwudili Uwa.
One locally made revolver with three rounds of 7.6 mm loaded in the gun, two locally made pistols, one locally made single barrel, 16 rounds of gadgets were all found in their possession.
Other recovered items were seven mobile phones, three driver’s licenses, one touchlight, three ATM cards, a bag loaded with Indian hemp, two thousand three hundred and 10 naira and one smack.
The Operational Commander, Col. Mohammed Zubaru who spoke with Journalists at the Military Barrack in Akure, the State Capital said the suspects specialize on snatching of already loaded trucks.
Zubaru stated that the suspects confessed that they took off from Abuja and their plan was to enter Kogi State where they would snatch trucks loaded with goods.
He said they also confessed that the snatched vehicles with the goods were expected to be taken to their leader simply identified as one Alhaji Bello living in Sokoto State.
He added that the Alhaji would now lead the stolen trucks with the goods to Niger Republic where it would be sold and the boys would then be compensated.
The Military Chief particularly alleged that one of the arrested suspects, Sesan Olarewaju was the link man, adding that he lives in Kogi State.
He said the suspects would be handed over to Police in Charge of Ekiti State for further investigation since they were arrested in that state.
However, one of the suspects, Godwin Attah, who claimed to be the driver of the Toyota Vehicle said he is a taxi driver in Abuja but was only contacted by the remaining suspects to take them to Kogi where they promised to pay him.
He also claimed that he was not aware that the suspects put some ammunitions in his car.
