BANKS in the ancient city of Abeokut, Sagamu, Ago-Iwoye, Ijebu-Ode and Ijebu-Igbo were still under lock and key, following incessant robbery attacks on the financial institutions by hoodlums.
Nigerian Tribune, on Monday morning, visited some of the banks within Abeokuta metropolis and discovered that virtually all the banks on the fourth day shut their doors against their customers.
A banker, who spoke with the Nigerian Tribune on condition of anonymity, said that some major banks in the state received a warning letter that they should not open the banks in their own interest.
Some customers, who besieged the banks, expressed disappointment over the closure of the banks, calling on the state government and the police to provide adequate security of lives for the entire citizenry.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State police command has assured residents of the state that adequate security had been put in place to protect life and property.
The command, in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said that additional 200 mobile policemen had been deployed to all bank areas.
It urged the bankers to resume their normal businesses, contending that security was guaranteed.
In a similar development, the state government had said that a Joint Task Force on Security had been put in place, noting that any responsible government should be able to provide adequate security for lives and property of the people of the state.
