NURTW member sentenced to five months imprisonment for phone theft

An Upper Area Court sitting in Abuja had on Wednesday sentenced a 22 year old man, Kabiru Audu to five months imprisonment for theft.

Kabiru who is a staff of National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Jabi motor park, Abuja was accused of stealing a Nokia phone worth N14,000.

He was given an option of N3,000 as fine.

The Police Prosecution witness, Mr Simon Ibrahim, had disclosed in the court that the matter was reported by one Habibu Ibrahim of C.B.N quarters, Utako, Abuja. The witness said the matter was reported on 8th February, 2013 to the Utako police station.

He further narrated that Mr Kabiru cunningly sneaked into the home of the complainant and stole his Nokia phone worth N14,000.

After having being caught by a passersby and arriagned at Utako police station, he admitted stealing the phone.

However, the Presiding Judge, Mr Ahmed Ado, in his judgment sentenced him to five months imprisonment with an option of N3,000.
