The Enugu State command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, has arrested one Onyeka Innocent Nwafor for allegedly vandalizing NNPC pipeline at Nnewe, Aninri Local Government Area of the State.

The State commandant of NSCDC, Stephen Lar, who paraded the suspect, warned vandals to desist from destroying public facilities as his command would stop at nothing to track them down.

According to him, to ensure that oil pipelines that passed through the state were protected, the NSCDC operatives had been positioned to ensure that the vandals did not sabotage the government efforts.

He added that the NSCDC, Enugu command had contacted the village heads and other stakeholders to always give them information and ensure that the pipeline that passed through their area were protected.

However, Nwafor, who is a commercial motorcycle rider, denied his involvement in the crime.

He claimed that “I went to the farm to harvest cassava; so, one of the boys from my village pleaded with me to help them drop 25 liters of petrol at the junction.

“When I got to the junction, the NSCDC arrested me and asked me to go and show them where I was coming from and I did.

“As we were going to the farm, the NSCDC operatives saw a boy coming out of the farm with another 25 liters; they rushed him but he ran away”.

Items recovered according to Lar, include: 250 liters of diesel, 2 unregistered 125 CG motorcycles, a cutlass and a sword.
