Two suspected vandals have been arrested in Abuja by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC for vandalizing Power Holding Company of Nigeria’s (PHCN) installations.
Aminu Kofar-Soro, the FCT Commandant of the corps, announced this in Abuja.
He said the suspects were arrested in the early hours of Monday, April 1, in Jiwa chiefdom of Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC.
He added that the suspects were arrested through the combined efforts of the NSCDC personnel and a vigilante group in Jiwa village and that 18 jerrycans containing mercury oil, used to power PHCN transformers were recovered from the suspects.
The commandant said the activities of the vandals had crippled power supply to Karmo, Kado, Life Camp and their environs.
Kofar-Soro noted that the NSCDC had informed the PHCN of the activities of the suspects and that the suspects would soon be handed over to the appropriate authorities to face trial.
One of the suspects attributed his action to the work of the devil, and asked Nigerians to forgive him.
He confessed that he was always selling the mercury oil to somebody who is now at large. He disclosed that the person buys 20 litres for N2,500.
