NSCDC arrests six people for bunkering in Ondo

The Ondo state Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) today arrested six persons for alleged involvement in various offences, ranging from currency counterfeiting, vandalism and bunkering.

The suspects are; Merotiwon Oyemikun, 25, Adebayo Tobi, 24, Chuka Nwakwo,Chukwujekwe Udoh, 23, Idowu Adetutu, 50, and Usman Isiaka.

Parading the suspects at the state Headquarters of the Command in Alagbaka, Akure, the state capital, the state Commandant, Andrew Ugwunba said the suspects had violated the law of the land and would be penalised

He said following a tip off, Nwakwo and Udoh were arrested at Oja Oba in Owo, Owo local government area of the state for allegedly being in possession of fake 1000 notes.

He said Udoh had confessed that he bought the fake N278 ,000 from someone for the sum of N130,000 in Lagos state.

The Commandant also said another two suspects; Oyemikun and Adebayo were arrested at Owena village along Ondo Akure road, adding that they were nabbed on a tanker with registration number; Ondo XB 213 REL, loaded with 15,000 litres of adulterated diesel.

He appealed to the citizenry to stop patronizing bunkerers. Ugwumba stressed that if there was no market for adulterated products, oil bunkering would reduce.

The NSDC boss also hinted that two persons were arrested for allegedly vandalizing State Water Corporation equipment in the town.

The Commandant expressed his administration’s commitment to reduce crude oil theft, pipeline vandalism, bunkering. and other criminal activities in the state.

He said the suspects would be charged to court in line with miscellaneous offences act and NSCDC act of 2003, 2007 as amended.

However, Udoh who was arrested for being in possession of fake currency said he was ignorantly dragged into the business by one of his friends whose whereabouts is still unknown .
